Field guide 05

Field technology you can hand to a friend.

Eight physical gadgets turn light, movement, survey work, salvage, and crew defense into real equipment with their own serial, tier, and addon history.

The gadget is the progress.

Every gadget is a normal physical item: droppable, storable, and transferable. Its tier, fuel, installed addons, and stored Phase Anchor belong to that exact serial instead of a character profile.

A transferred tool, weapon, armor piece, or gadget only activates for a player who has personally reached its required planet tier. A handoff preserves the exact gadget without turning high-tier trade into a planet-progression bypass.

Mechanist Tamsin runs the Aetherworks Hangar at the blue concourse route near (47, -1). She sells gadgets, previews risky tier upgrades, installs addons deterministically, and salvages unwanted equipment.

The aetherworks gadget catalog is one versioned manifest built to grow to hundreds without duplicating menu, economy, and public-data registries.

Eight launch gadgets

A purpose for every slot.

Each design solves a different field problem. Higher tiers sharpen its job instead of replacing tools, weapons, or player judgment.

EARLY / 1 TIER

Wayfinder Headlamp

Reliable hands-free Night Vision with no mode, tier, or addon state to manage.

Equip it; Night Vision is active while worn.

FREE TIER-I STARTER

Shaftwing Jetpack

Core vertical mobility, with a two-slot addon build for efficiency, safer landings, or gliding.

Jump, release, then press jump again while airborne to ignite.

EARLY / 3 TIERS

Pulse Grappler

Fast horizontal repositioning without replacing sustained Shaftwing flight.

Use while aiming at a solid surface inside range.

EARLY / 3 TIERS

Survey Sprite

A timed local visibility burst that complements exploration signals without revealing structures or generic anomalies.

Use to deploy one timed personal Allay scan.

EARLY / 3 TIERS

Gravimetric Boots

Passive landing control for players who spend fuel on travel instead of recovery.

Equip the boots; their landing response is automatic.

MID / 3 TIERS

Salvage Magnet

Tidier wreck recovery with strict ownership exclusions and a visible pulse cadence.

Use to pull eligible nearby drops toward you.

MID / 3 TIERS

Phase Anchor

A bounded tactical reset, disabled across worlds, Rifts, ships, and protected transit spaces.

Sneak-use to set the anchor; use again inside range to return.

MID / 3 TIERS

Aegis Projector

Telegraphed cooperative protection, not permanent armor or solo invulnerability.

Use to project a timed shield around nearby allies.

Early utility. Late specialization.

Zone requirements pace effects against the worlds that can support their Coin and Core sinks. No gadget is a required planet-access key.

Shaftwing modules

Three modules. Two slots.

Addon installation always succeeds. Choosing only two keeps the Shaftwing a build decision instead of a checklist.

ZONE 3 / TIER 2 SHAFTWING

Eco Nozzle

Thrust consumes 20% less fuel. A pulse-timed injector that stretches every canister without changing thrust.

40K Coins + 100 Cores

ZONE 4 / TIER 2 SHAFTWING

Impact Baffles

Landing protection consumes 40% less fuel. Layered exhaust vanes spend less fuel while arresting a dangerous landing.

90K Coins + 150 Cores

ZONE 5 / TIER 3 SHAFTWING

Wingframe

Enables Elytra-style glide. A folding foil frame that converts a powered Shaftwing into a controllable glider.

250K Coins + 350 Cores

Honest item economy

Risk is disclosed. Mobility is recoverable.

Mechanist Tamsin shows the exact Coin cost, Core cost, success chance, and total break chance before a second confirmation. A failed attempt can leave the serial unchanged or destroy that gadget; it never changes another copy.

A full tier-1 Shaftwing is issued on join; its warranty permits only one carried frame and replacement tanks are empty. Addon installs are deterministic and never enter the upgrade roll.

Tamsin's posted salvage quote returns 20% of successful base and tier Coin investment. Cores, failed attempts, and addons add no salvage value, so the loop cannot mint currency.

There is no gadget auction house, listing board, or P2P gadget market in this release. Players may still drop, store, or directly hand over the physical item.
